Sidechick sentenced for pouring hot palm soup on boyfriends wife

The Amasaman Circuit Court ordered the woman who threw boiling palm nut soup on her boyfriend’s wife to pay a fine of 100 penalty units (GH¢1,200).

When Afia Agyeiwaa was arraigned in November 2023, she simply admitted to causing harm to Madam Vida Ntiamoah, but her sentence was postponed until February 15, 2024.

Agyeiwaa, who was pregnant at the time and is now a two-month-old nursing mother, petitioned the Court presided over by Madam Enid Marfo-Sau for mercy.

The court considered her status as a nursing mother when imposing the sentence, as well as the fact that Madam Vida, the complainant, had informed the prosecution that the situation had been resolved amicably at home.

The Court was also informed on the day of judgment that the complainant wanted to end the trial, but the Court ruled that it was too late and committed to taking that into account in the sentence.

Police Chief Inspector Frederick Awuah-Ansah had previously informed the Court that the complainant, Madam Vida, is a trader who lives in Mayera Dunyo.

Afia Agyeiwaa, a seven-month-old pregnant woman, lived in Mayera Dunyo and was unemployed. Chief Inspector Awuah-Ansah revealed that the complainant’s spouse, Kwadwo Dwuma, is a fetish priest with four children.

He claimed that Agyeiwaa was the complainant’s husband’s girlfriend and that the complainant and her spouse had previously managed his shrine but had stopped due to circumstances.

The prosecution claimed that in 2022, the complainant’s husband told her that if she didn’t help him with his work again, he would seek assistance from someone else, to which the complainant agreed.

The Court heard that in the same year, the complainant’s husband traveled to Asante Akyem Agogo and brought Agyeiwaa into the house where he lived with the complainant.

Chief Inspector Awuah-Ansah stated that they all lived in the same compound but in different apartments.

He claimed that since Agyeiwaa entered the house, she had insulted the complaint but ignored her. On September 19, 2023, the complainant was preparing a meal in front of her room when she went to get something from the kitchen.

Chief Inspector Awuah-Ansah claims that Agyeiwaa, who was preparing food behind the kitchen, saw the complainant standing in one of the rooms and observed her through a window before confronting her.

After that, Agyeiwaa denigrated the complainant by calling her, among other derogatory terms, a village woman and a stupid woman.

The prosecution informed the court that the complainant replied that Agyeiwaa’s mother was a villager as well if she was a village woman, and she departed.

The convict saw the complainant coming back to the kitchen to get something, according to Chief Inspector Awuah-Ansah, and grabbed the hot palm nut soup she was making from the fire and poured it all over her back and neck in front of her husband.

After filing a police report, the complainant was given a medical report form directing her to visit a hospital for treatment and then submit a report.

Agyeiwaa was arrested as a result, and after an investigation, police said, she was charged and brought to court.
