Two teens charged after cat tortured, killed in Sydney

Chilling surveillance footage shows the moment a mask-wearing teenager runs through the streets with a family cat hours before its body was found dead in a nearby pond.

Police have alleged two boys, aged 12 and 14, took the cat from a Sydney home at about 4.30pm on Wednesday, March 8, 2023.

The cat was allegedly taken into a nearby clearing and then tortured and killed.

The family were unaware of the horror that had been inflicted on their beloved pet until they checked their security footage days later.

Emily Bidart, 28, drove to her mother’s house on Sunday after receiving a distressed call that Brandy had been missing for a few days.

Ms Bidart immediately checked the CCTV footage and was stunned by what she saw.

The footage showed two boys lingering around the home.

One boy returns about 20 minutes later wearing a mask, gloves and a hoodie. He allegedly grabs Brandy from the front garden before fleeing.

Ms Bidart then checked footage from another security which showed what unfolded.

She told 7News she was unable to watch the entire clip, her friend watched the footage to the end to see where Brandy had been dumped.

They later found Brandy’s body in a nearby park.

Two teens have been charged with animal cruelty.

Following extensive inquiries, investigators from Riverstone Police Area Command arrested the teens at a Glenwood home about 5pm on Monday before taking them to Riverstone Police Station.

Both boys were charged with torturing, beating and causing death to an animal and disposing of a killed or stolen animal.

They were granted strict conditional bail and will appear at a children’s court on Tuesday April 4, 2023.
