Zealand's New Single 'Spirit Sing' Gets European Release

In January of this year Zealand released their debut album ‘Liberated’ which is the follow up to the 2015 self-titled EP. The LP is being lead by the single ‘Spirit Sing’ which will be getting its official European release on May 11th.

Zealand are fronted by Phil Joel who is the former Newsboys’ bass player and in an unorthodox move he is not a user of any social media platforms and fans will not find any account on the likes of Twitter or Instagram for Zealand either. It’s a bold move in an age that performers and artists are active users of such platforms as they promote their musical output.

Speaking about his reasons behind not using social media, Phil says: “I realized it brought something out something ugly in me, and I didn’t like it”.

Along with Joel, Zealand consist of Ben Garrett, Roger Angove and Ben Bugna and the four piece are excited to bring their sound to European shores with the release of their new single ‘Spirit Sing’. The track has an air of mid-period Coldplay, and is an emotional, singable song that is euphoric in equal measure.

Speaking about the deep meaning in the single, Joel says: “Deep down we all knew instinctively that we’re all here as a part of a bigger picture and with a meaning beyond out understanding. It’s why we get emotional when babies are born or feel our chest swell when we sing our national anthem at football matches. It’s the deep breathing that happens when our focus moves beyond our vision and we get to see and be a part of something divine that causes our spirits to sing aloud and whether we know it or not, it’s in those moments that we are connecting with God. It defies our senses yet at the same time it fills our senses”.
